CORNELIANO D’ALBA - CN - PIEMONTE - ITALY Although some traces suggest it was inhabited inthe pre-historic era, a Roman tombstone of the Caio Cesio family – now in Alba’s museum – proves the Roman origins of the village, and also of the Gens Cornelia family. With the arrival of the Angevins between 1200 and 1250, Corneliano was dominated by the DE BRAYDAS. The polygonally-based tower which the family had built to demostrate its power remains as a symbol. Further historic testimony is to be seen in the great archway built on the square to commemorate the return of the village to the village to the House of Savoy following the abdication of Napoleon in 1814. The Baroque syle parish church, begun in 1768 to a JUVARRA design, is dedicated to St. Gall and St.Nicholas
