Pesaro

Pesaro is a pleasant town of Roman origin, with beautiful architecture, set against a picturesque landscape. Built around the sixth century BC, a Roman colony around the second century BC, was destroyed by the Goths in 539. Slowly rebuilt, is given by the Franks to the Pope, going under the protection of the Roman Church. Of this period remains today the cathedral, a building of the thirteenth century, the Romanesque facade with two lions. Towards the end of the thirteenth century, the Malatesta family came into possession of the city marking the territory deeply with works of great importance: the portal of the Church of St. Francis, where he buried the Blessed Michelina Metelli, and the portal of the Church of St. Augustine, are two splendid examples of Gothic art of this period. With the disappearance of the Malatesta, Sforza passes Pesaro, to whom we owe the construction of important monuments: the Palazzo Ducale and Villa Imperiale Rocca Costanza. Today the Palazzo Ducale, overlooking Piazza del Popolo with a beautiful portico with six arches. Today the hill is home to the St. Prefettura.Sul Bartolo is the Villa Imperiale, the monumental country house of Sforza and Della Rovere families, completely immersed in a park. It derives the name "Imperial" by the Emperor Frederick of Habsburg who legend has laid the first stone. Not far from the center of town is the Rocca Costanza, the first example of fortification in the Marches, which was built in 1474 by Costanzo Sforza: the structure consists of four cylindrical towers and a large courtyard, today houses the State Archives of Pesaro. In 1513 the lordship passed to the Della Rovere of Pesaro which survives the Church of St. Ubaldo, now overlooking Piazza del Popolo, together with Bavarian Palace, once used to house the court. Depart from Piazza del Popolo two major streets, Via Rossini and Corso XI Settembre. The first, at 34, is the house of Gioacchino Rossini, now a small museum dedicated to the composer. Very popular is the conservatory in Pesaro G. Rossini, opened in 1882, considered one of the best music schools in the world. Pesaro is also a city of art: in the middle of the Square of Freedom is the Great Sphere, a sculpture created by contemporary metal sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, now a symbol of the city. Known for its splendid majolica whose history dates back to 500, Pesaro is distinguished by its craftsmanship: Excellent is the processing of copper, wrought iron, ceramics, but also the manufacture of briar pipes. The coastline of sandy beach 5 km long makes Pesaro also a pleasant seaside town, full of summer events: in June there is the International Exhibition of New Cinema in July, the Festival and Festival of the Sea Port, the Rossini Opera Festival in August, in September and October, the National Festival of Drama Groups. The surroundings of Pesaro are fascinating landscape, the hills are ancient villages and stately homes surrounded by parks fabulous. You can visit the historical towns of Novilara and Candelara, with their ancient castles, and Fiorenzuola Ginestreto of Focara.
